Female poker players have gained some grounds in the world of gambling. This woman in particular helped doing this. She is recognized and feared as a talented, professional poker player with great capabilities of reading faces and expressions. Meet Clonie Gowen, one of the most successful poker players in the world.

Clonie, or Cycalona, which is her real name, grew up in Kiowa, Oklahoma and spent her younger years growing up as a high school jock. She was one of the most prominent players in the state championship basketball team and skilled in the high jump in track and field. In addition, she was also crowned Miss Teen McAlester, Oklahoma.

Before Clonie got hooked on poker, she moved to Dallas, Texas (which is where she still lives today). Her interest in poker had already gained some ground and when she found out that she was pretty good, she went to Shreveport, Louisiana to play at tournaments. She did win a few hundred Dollars ever time - enough to make a living out of it. Luckily, her success in small poker tournaments was only a fraction of what she got out of entering the famous World Poker Tour Costa Rica Classic. She ended up at the final table and got an invitation to the World Poker Tour Ladies’ Night 2003. There, she had to face Howard Lederer’s sister, Annie Duke and Jennifer Harman in what could have been the biggest female poker game ever. Clonie was well prepared and was not disturbed by the fact that millions of people watched her play. She knocked out the competition and scored the first place, which was later described as a sensation.

Nowadays Clonie takes part of the Full Tilt Poker Team and is seen regularly with players like Phil Gordon, Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson and Howard Lederer. The fact is that this online poker room was founded by the professionals to give the regular poker-playing people a chance to play against the biggest of poker celebrities. Clonie is known for her great interest in online poker and is playing on Full Tilt Poker on a regular basis. We hope – for your own sake – that you won’t have to play her.

Clonie does more than just playing poker, however. She is a regular columnist for the highly acclaimed Bluff Magazine, a poker magazine circulating in hundreds of thousands of copies in the United States. Clonie is also a member of the United States Poker Association (USPA).

Today, her winnings exceed $300,000 in poker tournaments alone, but that excludes all of the online gambling and the co-ownership in Full Tilt Poker, and of course her job as a columnist.
